The movie's setting seems to be post World War II era around 1945 or 1946. It is regarding an underground mob family in New York headed by Don Vito Corleon played by Marlon Brando. Don Corleon's son is Michael Corleon played by Al Pacino. Considering this film was made in the early 1970s, Al Pacino is so young in this film that I could not even recognize it was him until the ending credits started to roll. Don Corleon is an influential mob boss who controls many of the city's corrupt politicians and police. One day a fellow crime boss who makes money in narcotics requests Don Corleon's assistance with the city's politicians and police, in exchange for a cut of the narcotics profits. Don Corleon seems to have an inherent dislike for narcotics while seeing such things like gambling as an harmless vice. So Don Corleon refuses to take up the narcotics trade offer. Soon thereafter an attempt is made on Don Corleon's life in what seems to be an effort by fellow crime syndicates to break the monopoly influence the Corleon family has on the city's politicians. This of course causes the Corleon brothers to seek vengeance for their father and consequently we see the rise of Michael Corleon into the role of head of the Corleon crime family. The movie is okay but I personally preferred
Goodfellas. The Godfather is based on the book by Mario Puzo
The Godfather. Same writer also co-authored the screenplay for this movie.
